IT Help Guide: Password Reset

Password Requirements

To strengthen password security, our password requirements have been revised.. Going forward, staff and students will be unable to use passwords included in the Microsoft Global Banned List, which contains commonly used and weak passwords.

In addition, the following words (including character-swapped variations) will be prohibited:

  • Manchester, United, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool

  • College, Ltegroup, Total, People

  • Noah, Muhammad, George, Olivia, Amelia, Isla

  • Password complexity requirements
(Passwords must include a mix of 3 from uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and special characters.)

Resetting your password

If you change your password you must immediately update any of your mobile devices connected to the network, e.g. to use WiFi or to access email.

If you don’t do this your device may try to connect to the system automatically and after 10 times you will be locked out. If your account is locked, You can regain access by using the QR code provided, or you can simply wait 10 minutes before attempting again.

  • Account lockout threshold: 10 failed login attempts
(After 10 incorrect attempts, the account will be temporarily locked.)
  • Account lockout duration: 10 minutes
(Locked accounts will automatically unlock after 10 minutes.)
  • Reset account lockout counter after: 10 minutes
(If no failed attempts occur within 10 minutes, the counter resets.)

MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication)

After setting up your password, you will be prompted to configure MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication). For additional details, please refer to the help guide below.
