Online Resources

You have a very large collection of online resources available to you while you are with us. These are paid for by the Library and are not available via Google etc. They include professional and academic journal articles, eBooks and specialist subject material. You Subject Guide will tell you more about which resources will be most useful for you. 

For help using the resources or finding the information you need, please contact us. Most resources are also available from outside College and many can also be searched using the Discover search tool. The table below tells you more.

Box of Broadcasts BoB is an on demand TV and radio service for education. Record programmes from over 65 free-to-air channels, and search the extensive archive. Find out more.
Britannica Encyclopedia Academic edition of this well known and highly respected reference book.
Britannica Image Quest Britannica Image Quest gives access to over 3 million copyright free images from 50 of the World's best collections.
British Library The British Library has a range of material on dialects and accents. This link will take you to the British Library homepage - go to the search box and type in 'dialects' or 'accents' and you will be directed to a wide range of useful material. There is a wealth of other material here too - take a look at the Collections menu - find a whole collection of sound resources. 
Care Knowledge A gateway for up-to-date information about social care issues in England.
Complete Issues A comprehensive reference source addressing contemporary social issues. Some of the many subjects covered are: abortion, bullying, cloning, euthanasia, homeslessness, refugees and vegetarianism. Only available in college - ask library staff for the username and password.
Digimap Digimap for Colleges provides easy access to a range of OS maps including the most detailed mapping available for Great Britain, OS MasterMap, as well as digital versions of the Landranger and Explorer series. Also includes street level and road atlas style maps. Only available in college. 
Digital Theatre Plus Provides a growing number of recent British theatre productions with study guides, interviews with leading playwrights, directors, producers, actors, and technical theatre staff. 
Drama Online Excellent online resource for plays, critical analysis and performance. Lots of full-text plays and playwright information. Select plays for performance by character numbers.
Drapers Your key to the British fashion business with news, trends, catwalks, jobs, sales data and views. Ask library staff for username and password.
e-Law Student A comprehensive resource for law students; features lectures, articles, cases, statutes and revision notes.
Ebrary The collection of Further Education eBooks supplied by JISC.
EBSCOhost Research Databases EBSCOhost is a collection of databases giving you full text journal articles on a wide range of subjects - general academic, business, communications and mass media, environment, film and television, green issues, hospitality and tourism, theatre and dance, library and information studies, literature, psychology and behavioural sciences, social studies, sport, teaching and vocational studies. There is also a database of eBook titles.
Emerald Management Emerald is a global publisher of business and management information; includes more than 290 journals and over 2,000 books, as well as providing an extensive range of online products and additional customer resources and services.

Hairdressing Training Several haircuts are featured with a photographic step-by-step guide, a quick textual guide and a few simple questions to test your understanding of the material. The lessons section of the site covers much of the theory behind the haircuts, whilst the products section looks at the equipment and hair care products that the student will need to know as part of their education.

Labour Research Department The Labour Research Department is an independent research organisation which has been providing information for trade unionists for 100 years. Trade Union students - please contact your tutor for the username and password.
Lexis Nexis The legal profession's most authoritative collections available online. Practice areas include company, commercial, personal injury and property law.
Marketline Advantage The interactive, subscribers-only platform giving you anytime access to a unique mix of company, industry, country and financial data for every major marketplace in the world. To access in college click hereTo access outside of college click here
Music Week Valued source of news, data, analysis and opinion in the music industry. Digital version of the weekly magazine. Ask library staff for username and password.
MyiLibrary A growing collection of full-text eBooks. 
Philip Allan Archive Service Our subscription to Dynamic Learning provides access to the Philip Allan collection of Review journals on Biological Sciences, Business, Chemistry, Economics, English, PE, Physics, Politics, Psychology and Sociology. Ask library staff for the username and password.
Primal Pictures: Anatomy.TV An excellent, well illustrated resource for medical education. Use UK Institution Shibboleth Login, choose 'The Manchester College' and then enter your student username and password. 
Retail Week Leading authority on UK retailing, with news, analysis, comment and key data. Covers food, fashion, home and DIY, entertainment, e-tail, multi-channel, store interiors, technology and property as well as general merchandise. Ask library staff for username and password.
Rock's Backpages 12,000 articles, interviews and reviews from the world's best music writers and critics, from the late 1950s to the present day.
Skills4Study Campus An interactive e-learning resource, offering you a stimulating mix of activities to help with your learning. 
The Unsigned Guide The Unsigned Guide is the best guide for unsigned bands and individual artists. Ask library staff for username and password. 
Vogue Archive Searchable archive of American Vogue, from 1892 to the present. Includes covers and adverts, indexed by garment type, designer and brand names. A unique record of American and international fashion, culture and society.
Worth Global Style Network (WGSN) The world's leading online research, trend analysis and news service for the fashion and style industries. Only available in college.
