How to log on to computers

VDIs, Macs and laptops are available to use in our libraries.

Students

Log on to college computers with your student email address: studentnumber@stu.tmc.ac.uk

Your password is initially set to your date of birth in the following 8 digit format: ddmmyyyy

Staff

Log on to college computers with your staff email address: e.g. staffID@tmc.ac.uk 

Your line manager will give you an initial password.

Password Reset

You can reset your password while logged into a college computer by using Ctrl, Alt, Delete and then Change Password. You can also ask at a library desk or call us

If you change your password, or we change it for you, you must immediately update any mobile devices you have connected to the network, e.g. to use WiFi or to access email. If you don’t do this your device may try to connect to the system automatically and after three times and you will be locked out. If your account is locked, Library staff can unlock it again for you. 

Booking a computer

You can advance book a VDI, Mac or laptop in the library for a slot of up to 90 minutes, just visit the library desk or call us. This may be extended when you come to the end of your session if the computer has not been booked by another user.  

Drop-in

You can drop-in to use any computers that are available. After logging on you will be allocated 60 or 90 minutes (dependent on your campus) which you can extend, unless there is a future booking.   

Warning messages will appear on screen 10, 5 and 3 minutes before your time runs out. Make sure to extend your time and save your work before the 3 minute warning - by then the computer is already logging you off. If you don't get the option to self-extend your time on the computer, ask at the library desk before your time runs out. 

The computers shut down automatically 10 minutes before library closing time. 

Remember to save your work as you go, any unsaved work will be lost.

Remember to save your work regularly in the correct place. 

Your storage areas: 

H Drive

Your Home Drive is your personal storage area on the college network. When using a college computer this can be found by opening My Computer and is identified by your student number or staff ID. Your H drive is not accessible out of college. 

Do not save to the Desktop or any other folder, or work will be cleared when you log off. 

OneDrive

You will also receive online storage with Microsoft OneDrive. If you save your work to OneDrive you can access your files from anywhere, on any device. You can also share documents with others and work together.

​Students can access OneDrive via MyDay.

USBs can usually be used, but only if not encrypted. Hard drives are not compatible with most computers in College.

WiFi

Wifi is available to use on every campus. Simply choose the TMC network and log in with your student email address (studentnumber@stu.tmc.ac.uk) or staff ID and password.

If you change your password remember to update any devices you have connected to the WIFI. Tell your device to Forget the Network, then reconnect using your new password.
